To study English is to enter worlds that we otherwise wouldn't and to come to a deeper, more complete understanding of ourselves.
During your semester in Grade 11 English you will:
- Learn about Canadian and world cultures. What makes us the same? What makes us different? How do we work together to solve the common problems that affect us all?
- Meet and talk with people who use English in their work
- Enter the weird and tormented world of Shakespeare's Macbeth
- Write your own short stories and poems

What are we doing right now?
We are studying Media and Popular Culture and asking big questions like:
- Why is an independent media essential for democratic countries?
- How do we know when something is true?
- How is media constructed?
- Who owns the media?
What were we doing?
We were reading Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and asking big questions like:
- Is ambition always positive?
- What is happiness? Where can we find it?
- How does guilt motivate us?
We were also examining different cultures through short stories and poetry. We were focussing on the ways in which superficial differences between cultures hide fundamental similarities.
